The Short Version

Akai Labs LLC ("Akai Labs," "we," "us," or "our") operates Sam, a conversational AI product. We take your privacy seriously. Your conversations with Sam are yours. We do not sell your data, we do not use your conversations to train AI models, and we collect only what is necessary to provide the service.

Children's Privacy

If we learn that we have collected personal information from a person under 18, we will take immediate steps to delete that information and terminate the associated account. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information to Sam, please contact us at hello@iamsam.ai so we can take appropriate action.

What We Collect

Conversation Data

When you have a conversation with Sam, we store the messages, the Clarity Map data generated from your conversation, and metadata like timestamps.

• •Free users: Conversations are stored in your browser's local storage. They stay on your device unless you choose to create an account.
• •Subscribed users: Conversations are stored securely in our database, associated with your account, so you can return to them later.

Account Information

If you create an account, we collect your email address for authentication and communication about your account. We also store subscription status for paying users.

Usage & Analytics Data

We use PostHog for product analytics. This collects basic usage data to help us understand how people use Sam and to improve the experience. This includes page views, session duration, feature usage, and interaction patterns. This data is aggregated and not tied to your conversation content.

Device Information

We collect basic device information (browser type, screen size, timezone) to help prevent abuse of our free tier and to ensure the service works well on your device.

Payment Information

Payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe, Inc. We do not store your credit card number, bank account details, or other payment credentials on our servers. We retain only the information necessary to manage your subscription (such as your Stripe customer ID and subscription status).

How We Use Your Data

• •To provide the service: Your conversation data is processed to generate responses and build your Clarity Map.
• •To improve Sam: We may analyze aggregated, anonymized usage patterns to improve the experience. We do not read individual conversations for this purpose.
• •To communicate with you: We may send you emails about your account, subscription status, or important service updates. You can opt out of non-essential emails.
• •To prevent abuse: Device fingerprinting and usage patterns help us detect and prevent misuse of the free tier.

What We Don't Do

• •Sell your data: We never sell your personal information or conversation data to third parties.
• •Train AI on your conversations: Your conversations are not used to train the AI models that power Sam.
• •Share with advertisers: We do not display ads and do not share data with advertising networks.

Third-Party Services

Sam relies on the following third-party services to operate:

• •Anthropic provides the AI language models that power Sam's responses. When you send a message, it is transmitted to Anthropic for processing. Anthropic is contractually prohibited from using your conversations to train their models. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
• •Stripe handles payment processing. When you subscribe, Stripe manages your payment information according to their Privacy Policy.
• •PostHog provides product analytics. Usage data is collected to help us improve Sam. See PostHog's Privacy Policy.
• •Supabase provides database hosting for user accounts and conversation storage. See Supabase's Privacy Policy.
• •Vercel hosts the Sam application. See Vercel's Privacy Policy.

Cookies & Tracking

Sam uses essential cookies for authentication and session management. Our analytics provider (PostHog) may set cookies to track usage patterns. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings.

Data Retention

• •Free users: Data in local storage persists until you clear it or your browser clears it automatically.
• •Subscribed users: Your conversations are retained as long as your account is active. You can delete individual conversations or request full account deletion at any time.
• •After cancellation: If you cancel your subscription, your data is retained for 30 days in case you resubscribe, then permanently deleted.
• •Account deletion: Upon request, we will delete all your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• •Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• •Deletion: Request that we delete your personal data.
• •Portability: Request a machine-readable export of your conversations and data.
• •Correction: Request correction of inaccurate personal data.
• •Opt-out: Opt out of non-essential communications at any time.

California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

• •Right to know: You may request details about the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you.
• •Right to delete: You may request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain legal exceptions.
• •Right to non-discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.
• •No sale of personal information: We do not sell personal information as defined under the CCPA.

Data Security

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your personal information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your data.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you via email or through a notice within the service at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of Sam after the effective date constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
